Days Gone By, a Stroll Through Oakland Cemetery

Old cemeteries have intrigued me. The old marble and granite figures and symbols, carved in stone, reaching toward the sky, to stand through centuries, where the bereaved may find comfort. The image above is from Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia . . . the crooked crosses, leaning over from the years of weather, ground settling, and the roots of large shade trees finding a path of growth through the landscape. Oakland is home to a variety of architectural styles from Victorian to Greek Revival. Armed with my cameras, I walked silently . . . finding solace behind the lens and capturing the beauty of acres of beautiful architecture, gorgeous trees and plants, and exploring the magnificent mausoleums and sculptures.
